Venue, approach

Event centre in Bad Harzburg on the northern edge of Harz Mountains in the middle of Germany. Competitions in Bad Harzburg, Goslar, Drei-Annen-Hohne and Clausthal-Zellerfeld, maximum 35 km from Event centre. By plane: Nearest airport is Hanover at 1,5 hours by car or train to Bad Harzburg as well as Hamburg, Halle/Leipzig or Berlin Airport at 2-3 hours by car or train to Bad Harzburg. By car or bus: From all directions by motorway 395 or national roads 4 and 6 to Bad Harzburg.

Competitions

Sprint

The competition consists of a qualification and a final race. In general the first 80 competitors of each class will qualify for the A-final, the following 80 to the B-final etc. For details see IOF rule 6.14 .

The terrain for the sprint qualification is a mixture of town and parkland. The terrain for the sprint final consists of a finely-detailed structure of small alleys and streets with small parks and squares. Each area is rather flat and lies around 250 metres above sea level.

Long Distance

The competition consists of two qualification races and a final. Based on the overall results of the qualification races, in general the first 80 competitors in each class will qualify for the A-final, the following 80 for the B-final etc. For details see IOF rule 6.14 .

The terrain for the Long Distance qualification 1 is mainly coniferous, there are plenty of interesting rocks and cliffs. The runnability is mainly good. The area is quite flat especially for the shorter courses. The terrain for the Long Distance qualification 2 is relatively flat and has mostly good runnabilty. It is characterised by many interesting technical features arising through previous mining activities. The terrain for the Long Distance final is varied. In some areas there are stones and cliffs and the runnability is mainly good. The area is reasonably flat especially for the shorter courses. The longer courses may cross some deeper valleys. All terrains lie at 450 to 600 metres above sea level.

All races will be conducted in accordance with IOF competition rules, including winning times.

Classes

World Masters categories for all runners born in 1977 or earlier: W/M 35-, 40-, 45-, 50-, 55-, 60-, 65-, 70-, 75-, 80-, 85-, 90-, 95-.

Public races: Alongside the WMOC, a public event (Harz Cup) will be offered on the same terrains as the WMOC for the following competition days: 2 July, 4 July, 5 July, 7 July. Classes: M/W 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21A, 21B, Open Beginner, Open Intermediate, Open Advanced.

Punching System

SPORTIdent punching system with SI cards will be used. SI cards can be hired at registration for a 10 EUR fee per person.

Registration

Registration will be open from August 1st, 2011 on www.wmoc2012.de

After the last deadline, late entries will be possible only for vacant places for a surcharge of 30 EUR Harz Cup 20 EUR). Changes are free of charge until 10 May 2011, later possible for a 20 EUR change fee (Harz Cup 10 EUR).

Entries become valid upon the payment of the entry fee.

Accommodation

All manner of accommodation possibilities will be offered, producing only short trips to reach the competition areas. There are five-star and four-star hotels, guesthouses, family hotels, holiday flats, bed and breakfast places, youth hostels and campsites.

Transport, Parking

Official transport to the races and model events will be available from Bad Harzburg for a fee of 50 EUR for the whole event or 10 EUR/day. Assembly areas can also be accessed by car or by bus. Assembly areas can be reached from the car parks on foot, short distances for participants in the classes W/M 80-, 85-, 90- and 95-.

Ceremonies, culture

Opening ceremony on Sunday evening, 1 July, after the Sprint qualification and closing ceremony on Saturday evening, 7 July, after the Long Distance final. The official banquet on Thursday, 5 July, 7 pm. has to be booked beforehand. Cost 55 EUR. Free entrance for traditional Harz evening event on Sunday evening, 2 July. All ceremonies will take place at the event centre. There are numerous cultural and entertainment tourist programmes available in the Harz Mountains on all days and especially on rest days. More information is given on www.wmoc2012.de. There are also programmes bookable at the event centre during the WMOC-week.

Climate

The weather in the Harz mountains in July is mostly pleasant. The temperatures are between 18° and 28°C.

Visa, insurance

Competitors coming from certain countries need a visa to enter Germany. Information concerning visa requirement is available at local German embassies or at the official site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Each competitor participates in the event at his/her own risk.

Children

A kindergarten will be provided for children. A children’s course will also be organised in the assembly areas of the Long Distance races.
